Ameriphysics conducted MARSSIM-based scoping, characterization, and final status decommissioning surveys in three federally operated buildings on a medical center campus in North Chicago. In addition to surveying and sampling, remediation of countertops and piping systems was necessary. Contaminants included H-3, C-14, uranium, Ra-226, and a host of hazardous chemicals. Ameriphysics optimized the survey design by collecting scoping and characterization survey data in a manner that served to reflect final status. We were selected to perform this work primarily because our survey design resulted in an overall approach that was determined by the government to represent significant cost savings over other proposed approaches.
