Ameriphysics was contracted to conduct the work necessary to remove the facility from the University’s radioactive material license and enable the building to be demolished and removed. The three-story building was a reinforced concrete structure with concrete block and brick infill and had a usable area of approximately 65,000 square feet. The facility had a high bay area which included a contaminated hot cell, various radioactive use laboratories, and a 16,000 gallon spent fuel pool. Ameriphysics characterized the facility, pumped and treated contaminated pool water and sludge, remediated the pool, hot cell, and laboratories, and conducted a variety of hazardous material removals including asbestos abatement.
